University of Texas: Classics vs. Business

At UT,  the inequality in funding around campus is pretty obvious. Look at this recliner that sits in Waggener Hall, home of the Classics Department.

    But one can sit in that chair and read. All one can do at the Biz school is ride the escalator and admire the decor.

    Ha. I think that the pictures reflect two distinct views of the world: the interior and the exterior or reflection vs. projection. Not that either is more valuable than the other, though society does place more importance on making money. I am pro-business/innovation, but I think that often businesses devalue the importance of age-old knowledge and philosophy for the newest fad that will yield greater returns. Plato and Socrates *don’t pay them bills*:)

    I bet that “weathered” recliner at Waggener Hall has a few stories to tell! Despite the allure of gaining some insight into the past, if storyline requires sitting in that chair, I think I’d pass. Heck, I’m pretty confident that Mr. Brown would pass, too.
